The vision statement of GateWay Church, Leyton, is,
which we hope we are achieving, and will continue to achieve by making ourselves more accessible to those who live in the Leyton area.
We believe that God wants us to emphasise the following values, in order to allow those who share our beliefs to find a place where they can be supported and encouraged. We do not believe that the style and ethos of the way we "do" church is the only way. It is simply what we believe God has called us to do, and how he wants us to express it. We believe we are just part of the Church, the body of Christ, and enjoy working together with other Leyton churches.
The Bible - the scriptures are important to us as both God's revelation about Himself to mankind, but also in inspiring us to live and behave like Jesus. The Bible has practical relevance for the way we live our lives.
Local church - we feel that we are called to be salt and light in this part of Leyton. It is an important aspect of the church's life that many of our members live close together in order to support one another more fully, and are able to be involved in the local community.
Priesthood of all believers - members take an active part in church life and worship. We believe in team leadership and body ministry, a church where we all minister to each other by working in partnership.
Servant Leadership - the church does not exist for the leaders to fulfill their ministry, but the leadership exists to serve the church. The leadership's role is to equip, encourage and enable the people in the church to become the people God wants them to be.
Relationships - we don't just attend the same church, but we are all friends, family and co-workers for the Lord Jesus.
Shared Life - as we live and grow together we are open to learn from one another. We want to encourage each other to be like Jesus.
The Spiritual gifts - we believe we should be empowered by the Holy Spirit, who equips us with His gifts. These are God's tools to do the job of building His church to reach out into the world around us.
